Emotions and talent ran wild at last month’s Alter Ego Special Needs Field Day, hosted at the City of Lapeer Community Center, Parks & Recreation. Athletes with extraordinary heart and determination took on every challenge with unshakable tenacity, turning the event into a true celebration of ability and unity.
This unforgettable evening, put together by Jeff Peka, owner of Alter Ego Fitness, and the ever-dedicated Tarrah Martin, was nothing short of inspiring. What began four years ago as a small gathering, thanks to the vision of Aubry Knight and her social group, has now blossomed into an annual event that the community eagerly awaits.
From obstacle courses provided by EPIC Inflatables LLC—complete with fan-favorite glitter bombs—to the energy-filled beats from the incredible DJ Ty Elliott, there wasn’t a dull moment. The athletes gave their all, showcasing heart, sportsmanship, and smiles that lit up the whole venue.
Quinn Willoughby Photography beautifully captured every highlight, from candid grins to triumphant finishes. His work made sure that every memory was preserved perfectly. Fueling the fun were local food favorites, E.G. Nicks Grill & Tavern and Mancino’s Pizza & Grinders, ensuring no one went hungry during the action-packed festivities and awards ceremony.
"A huge THANK YOU goes out to the sponsors and volunteers whose generosity and dedication made this day possible, including Brian Bach, Betsy Rucker Felton, Ashley Brown, Sabrina Hudson, Judy Flowers Verse, Colleen Sears-Hames, Mike Hames, and Mac Throwsplastic. Your kindness and presence brought warmth and joy to everyone involved. And of course, a super ultra mega thank you to Tarrah Martin, whose commitment and organizational talents made sure everything ran smoothly and joyfully from start to finish." says Jeff Peka.
Events like these are a shining reminder of what makes our community special—support, celebration, and unbreakable spirit. We’re already counting down the days until next year’s Field Day!
